The Savana - Safari Tour

This tour takes you from the south to the north of Cameroon by train, giving you a unique view over the rich landscape of the country. Then you arrive at the heart of the northern part of Cameroon. You will have the opportunity of discovering the cultural diversity of north Cameroon; the kingdoms (Lamidat) of these regions are beautifully constructed, each having its cavalery of warriors, horse ridding, Fantasia and breath-taking traditional dances. This part of Cameroon is also home to many natural ressources, the Koza hills, the water-falls of Lancrenon (100m) and that of Tello (45m). This tour is also made up of a trips to two national park: the Waza national park and the Benoué national park. You will find lions, girafes, elephants, monkeys, etc. Please, note that it is best to start this tour on a Monday, it is however not compulsory. Day 01

  • Arrival and reception at Douala International Airport (Probably Monday)
  • Transfer to hotel and overnight

Day 02

  • Travel to Yaoundé
  • Yaoundé City tour
  • Transfer to train station
  • Travel to Ngaoundéré by train (all night)

Day 03

  • Arrival at Ngaoundéré
  • Transfer to hotel
  • Visit of the Lamidat of Ngaoundéré
  • Horse-back riding
  • Diner and overnight in hotel

Day 04

  • Visit of the Benoué National Park which has many animals
  • Diner and overnight in camp

Day 05

  • Travel to Rey Bouba (Probably Friday)
  • Visit to the market, here you will find Bororo women who come to sell naturally-extracted milk
  • Diner and overnight at the Boubba Ndjidda camp

Day 06

  • Visit to the Boubba Ndjidda park which has a variety of animals
  • A good thing about this park is that, you always find animals

Day 07

  • Travel to Grand Capitaine
  • Watch hippopotamus on sand and cog jester
  • Fishing and overnight

Day 08

  • Travel to Garoua (Probably on Sunday, Pitoa market day), a rich colorfull mixture of many ethnics groups and articles on sale. You may want to buy some "souvenirs"
  • Diner and overnight in Garoua

Day 09

  • Travel to Rhumsiki
  • Visit of the "Gorge de Kola"
  • Visit to the blacksmith
  • Dinner and overnight in Rhumsiki

Day 10

  • Walking to a Cameroon/Nigeria border
  • Visit to the traditional music instruments artist
  • Visit to the weavers
  • Visit to the crab fortune teller
  • Dinner and overnight at the Rhumsiki camp

Day 11

  • Travel to Mokolo
  • Visit of the Mafa's market, this is a very populated region
  • Dinner and overnight in Mokolo camp

Day 12

  • Travel to Tourou
  • Visit of the famous Hidi peoples's market A focal point is women wearing decorated calabashes on their heads
  • Travel to Ndjiguila
  • Visit of the mountains' women craft cooperative
  • Stop over at the Koza hills
  • Visit of the traditional chief's palace of Podoko
  • Return to Waza for dinner and overnight in camp

Day 13

  • Whole day at the Waza national park (visiting the giraffes park, lions, elephants, antelope, monkeys, waterhogs)
  • Dinner and overnight at the Waza lodge

Day 14

  • Travel to Maga
  • Visit of the park and crossing from north to south of Maga through the park
  • Canoe riding on the lake between the islands and the fishermen Hippopotamus and many birds in sight
  • Dinner and overnight in Maga

Day 15

  • Travel to Maroua
  • Stop over at Maga-Pouss to visit the Mourla's Sultanate and Mousgoum's huts
  • Continuation to Maroua
  • Maroua city tour, visit to the taners and craft centre
  • Transfer and overnight in hotel

Day 16

  • Preparations for departure
  • Transfer to Maroua airport or Garoua airport (depending on flight schedule) for departure to Douala International Airport
  • Arrival at Douala International Airport and departure
